Review and prospect of the studies on L2 vocabulary learning strategies in China

Based on a statistical analysis of the relevant papers on L2 vocabulary learning strategies published in 23 academic journals of foreign languages over the past 15 years( 1999-2013),this paper attempts to describe the status quo and predict the developmental trend of the studies on L2 vocabulary learning strategies in China. The analysis indicates that:( 1) the studies on L2 vocabulary learning strategies show an encouragingly upward development,with a slight fluctuation;( 2) as the field expands and perspectives diversify,empirical studies take the dominant position;( 3) the studies on vocabulary learning strategies training,especially on mnemonic strategies training and its effect,are on the rise;( 4) the comparative studies on vocabulary learning strategies among learners at different levels of language proficiency and the studies on the relationships between vocabulary learning strategies and the affecting variables receive increasing attention. The paper further discusses the unsolved problems in the studies on L2 vocabulary learning strategies in China,and puts forward some suggestions for future studies.
