STUDIES ON THE LIFE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE COTTON APHID AMONG THE COTTON AND CUCURBITS PLANT TRANSPLANTATION

LIU Xiang dong, ZHANG Xiao xi, ZHAI Bao ping, SUN Kui long (College of Plant Protection, Nanjing Agricultural University, Nanjing 210095,China)
The population characteristics of cotton aphid were studied by host transplantation method. The results showed that the transplanted cotton aphid and its offspring could survive 1-4 and 1-3 days respectively after transplanting among the cotton and cucurbits (cucumber, water melon and muskmelon). And the aphid population wasn't built. The cotton aphids feeding on cotton and cucurbits has formed host biotypes. The transplantation among cucumber, water melon and sweat melon could succeed, but the net reproduction per aphid was decrease from the first to fourth generations after transplantation. So the fitness of cotton aphid to the same family of plant hosts was also different.
