Experimental Investigation on Parameters of Pulse Width Modulation-Holding Solenoid Valve Drive Mode

Experimental studies on the parameters of pulse width modulation holding solenoid drive mode are carried out. The results show that increasing the frequency of pulse width modulation can reduce the fluctuation of solenoid’s current. However, the electromagnetic interfering will increase when the frequency of pulse width modulation is excessive high. Reducing both the fluctuation of solenoid’s current and the electromagnetic interfering can be achieved through optimizing the frequency of pulse width modulation. The stable current for holding the solenoid valve closing is determined by the duty cycle of pulse width modulation. Under the condition of reliable solenoid valve closing, small duty cycle of pulse width modulation is favorable. The initial current to hold solenoid valve closing is up to the delay time of pulse width modulation. It can be achieved that the value of the initial current for holding solenoid valve closing is equal to the stable current for holding solenoid valve closing through optimizing the delay time of pulse width modulation. The same stable current for holding the solenoid valve closing can be achieved by different voltage of low power source and the duty cycle of pulse width modulation. Moreover, increasing the voltage of high power source can reduce the response time.
