Objective To investigate the effect of splenic macrophage (M) on the hypersplenism and splenic immune function of portal hypertension(PHT).Methods The changes in the quantity, distribution, ulstrastructure of M;the quantity of ACP in M and the quantity of M phagocytizing blood cells in the spleen of PHT were observed by the method of immunohistochemistry and transmission electron microscope. Results It was found that the quantity of the M per area in the spleen decreased. The active quantity of ACP in M increased. The surface folopodia of M increased and lengthened. The quantity of lysosome in M and the quantity of M phagocytizing erythrocytes and platelets increased. Conclusion Therefore,it can be considered that the splenic M can play a vital role in the occurrence of the hypersplenism of PHT,the spleen of PHT still had some immune funtion.
