Development of Pulse Generator for Studying Transient Property of Transformers

In order to study the process of impulse propagation in the XLPE cable winding by VFTO,a nanosecond voltage pulse generator is developed.In this paper PSCAD/EMTDC is used to study the effect of the parameter of circuit.When inductance in circuit becomes large,the rise-time of pulse will become large and oscillation will become in the tail of pulse.So we try the best to reduce the inductance of circuit and select impulse capacitance with value of 1nF as energy storage capacitor,and adjust the length of transmission cable in order to make no reflection of output impulse.Thus the impulse is very good and can be used to study the transient property of transformer's winding by VFTO.
