On Hydrodynamic Design of Underwater Supercavitating High Speed Vehicle

Each of five references provides some useful information for hydrodynamic design of underwater supercavitating high speed vehicle. In this paper, we draw on information provided by Refs.1 through 5 and present comprehensively principles and methods of such design, which we explain in much detail. In order to check the validity of our proposed design principles and methods, we planned carefully water tunnel model experiments and carried them out in NPU high speed water tunnel. In this paper, we explain in some detail how we planned these experiments. One point we wish to emphasize is that we paid special attention to the generation of non-symmetrical supercavitating zone to satisfy the balance and stability of underwater supercavitating high speed vehicle. Photographs of cavity flow pattern of vehicle and hydrodynamic curves obtained in the experiments indicate preliminarily that our proposed design principles and methods are feasible.
