The Soil Characteristic and Its Relationship with Tobacco Leaf Quality in Shaanxi Tobacco Growing Area

Ai Suilong, Ma Yingming, and Wei Chengcai (Shaanxi Provincial Institute of Tobacco, Xian 710002)  
48 representative soil and relavant tobacco leaf samples have been collected and analysed. The results indicated as follow: in Shaanxi tobacco growing area, the average content of organic matter, total-N, available N, total-P, available P, total-K, available K, effective B, effective Zn, effective Mo,Cl,pH was 13.9 g/kg, 0.75 g/kg, 55.1 mg/kg, 1.44 g/kg, 6.9 mg/kg, 21.6 g/kg, 136.0 mg/kg, 0.214 mg/kg, 0.495 mg/kg, 0.117 mg/kg, 1.60 mg/kg, 7.78 respectively. The main soil types for growing tobacco were huangmian soil, yellow brown earth and heilou soil. Correlative analysing results showed that the main soil barrier factors affecting Shaanxi tobacco leaf quality were low content of organic matter, high pH and widespread dificiency of B, Zn and Mo. To produce excellent quality tobacco leaf must pay attention to selecting suitable soil types (eg.yellow brown earth), regulating soil acidity, adding organic fertilizer and K fertilization, and improving its applied method, supplementing properly the micro nutrients such as B, Zn and Mo etc.
