Study on high risk behaviors among male sex workers related to STI/HIV.

Objective To survey high risk behavior among male sex workers(MSW)related to STI/HIV.Methods A sample was composed of men who had ever engaged in sex with men(MSM)and obtained by target sampling.A comparison was made between MSW and other MSM matched in age.Results Relative young,unmarried men,with low education,low income or no income,who were rural physical laborers,were more likely to engage in sex work.MSW's ages when having first sex were less than other MSM's.MSW's cumulative male sex partners,male anal sex partners,male oral sex partners as well as male sex partners,unfamiliar male sex partners,male oral sex parners in the past year were all more than other MSM's.The percentage of MSW who were ever paid for male-male sex or engaged in group sex in the past year was higher than that of other MSM.Conclusions MSW have more high risk behavior than other MSM.More attention should be paid to this subpopulation for STI/HIV prevention.
