STUDIES ON GENETIC VARIATION OF SUCCESSIVE GENERATIONS AFTER HYBRIDIZATION IN SOYBEANS——Ⅱ.Combining Ability and Related Genetic Parameters

The combining ability and related genetic parameters were studiedfrom F_1—F_4 generations of a diallel cross among five cultivars fromchina and USA.Fourteen traits of yield,yield components,and growth periods sho-wed to have significant gca variation in F_1—F_4;eleven in F_1 and onlyseven in F_4 indicated significant sca variation.Yield in all four genera-tions was significant in both gca and sca variation,which indicated thatthe total genetic variance was composed of additive,dominant,ahd alsocertain amount of additive x additive variance.The significance of gene-ration x gca and generation x sca indicated that there would be differentoptimal parent combinations for the utilization of F_1 hybrid vigor andpure line selection in later generations. The estimates of gca % and h_N~2 showed that selection for yield mightbe appropriate in some later generations,and selection for growth periods,100-seed weight,number of seeds per pod,and bottom pod height couldbe carried out rigorously from the early generations,while the othertraits would not be appropriate for rigorous selection in all the generationsstudied。
