Study on Boron Nutrition and Seed Setting of Rapeseed

The effect of boron nutrition on the seed setting characterics of rapeseed (Brassicanaous L.) were studied though observation of the morphology of the floral organsand analysis of the physiological properties. The results are as follows: (1) Application of boron fertilizer (+B) could greatly increase the number ofeffective siliques, the average number of seeds per silique and yield of seed ascompared with the control (B_0). (2) Boron nutrition could greatly effect the develop-ment of the floral organs, especially the anthers of rapeseed, Many abnormalities werefound in the transverse sections of anthers under B_0 treatment. (3) The contents ofsoluble proteins, starch and free proline in the anthers under B_0 treatment were lowerthan those under + B treatment, indicating that deficiency of boron nhtrition couldprobably cause and speed up the abortion of the pollen under B_0 treatment. (4)Genotypic differences were observed between the response of 2 genotypes to boron nutri-tion;Ningyou 8 was more sensitive to boron deficiency than Ningyou 7.
