Transferring Dwarfing Genes from Common Wheat to Octoploid Triticale Ⅰ. Identification of Dwarfing Genes Involved in the Donor Wheat Strains

Seven dwarf wheat strains with known genotypes of Rht1, Rht2, Rht3, Rht8, Rth9 and Rht10 respectively were used as reference system to identify the dwarfing genes involved in the eight dwarf donor wheat strains by means of segregation analysis of plant height of F2 populations derived from crosses between octoploid triticale and the donor wheat strains (as male) and GA sensitivity test of the wheat strains. The 15 donor wheat strains were classified into four groups according to the major dwarfing genes identified. Norin 10, having Rhtl and Rht2 genes, is the type strain of group A. And 3 strains were identified to belong to group A. They are white 1231, containing Rhtl and Rht2 genes and Olesen Dwarf and 78(26)8-16 which contain Rht1, Rht2, Rht8 and Rht9. Group B Contains Rht3 gene, there are 7 strains in this group. 2 of them (Short 2882 and Short Sumai 3) were already known to have Rht3 and the other 3, ShortⅠ 542, 86 Zhong 1806 and 1316 were newly identified to contain also Rht3. Whereas Short 7830 and Short funo contain Rht3 and Rht8. Short 3034 which was already known to possess Rht8 and Rht9 genes is the type strain of group C. The other 2 strains, 74-6302 and 1215-09 were identified to have an unknown dwarfing gene Rhtx in addition to Rht9. Group D includes only one cultivar, Aibian 1, that contain Rht10 dwarfing gene.
