Effects of Red and Blue Light Proportion on Leaf Growth, Carbon-Nitrogen Metabolism and Quality in Tobacco

Increasing red light proportion had some effects to increase Leaf area, but made the specific leaf weight lower and the leaf thiner. Red light could decrease the content of chlorophyll, make the leaf colour lighter, increase the invertase activity, net photosynthetic rate, total carbon content, reducing sugar contents and the C/N, decrease the total nitrogen and protein contents increase a higher C metabolism and lower N metabolism. The blue light had retarding effects on leaf growth. Blue light could increase the specific leaf weight and the ratio of dry weight to fresh weight making the leaf thicker and the content of chloroghyll higher, it could increase NR activity, respiratory rate, the contents of total nitrogen, protein, amino acid, and strengthen the N metabolism.
