Analysis on Combining Ability and Heritability of Photosynthetic Characters in Indica Hybrid Rice

Combining ability and heritability of photosynthetic characters were investigated by way of 4×4 NCII cross design with 4 sterility lines and 4 resilience lines. The results showed that: (a) The additive variation was principal in chlorophyll content(Chl), saturation light intensity(SLI), quantum efficiency(QE), CO 2 compensate point(CCP), active photosynthesis duration (RSP) and leaf life span(LS) while the non additive variation was greater in photosynthetic rate (Pn) and stoma conductance (Gs). (b) RSP, CCP and SLI were influenced more greatly by sterility line than by resilience line, but Chl, LS and QE mainly by resilience line, while Pn and Gs and transpiration rate (Tr) mainly by their interactions. (c) The correlation coefficient between block means in 9 photosynthetic characters for every cross and the adding effect value of general combining ability for its parents was significantly positive at the 0.01 level, therefore, it was possible to use it to forecast the phenotype of photosynthetic characters in hybrid rice, which was important for selecting parents and producing highly photosynthetic efficiency combination in effect. (d) The h 2 N was ordered from high to low as SLI, CCP, QE, Chl, LS, RSP, Tr, Pn, and Gs.
