Preliminary Studies on QTL Mapping of Resistance to Sugarcane Mosaic Virus in Maize

The genetic linkage maps was constructed with sixty five SSR markers based on a maize population consisting of 184 F 2 individuals from cross HangZao4 (resistant)×Ye107 (susceptible), covering 1333.3 cM on total ten chromosomes with an average interval length of 20.5 cM. The population of 184 F 3 lines was evaluated for Sugarcane Mosaic Virus (SCMV) resistance under artificial inoculation. With the method of composite interval mapping, three QTL conferring resistance to SCMV were identified on chromosome 3, 6, and 10, Linked with markers phi053, phi077 and phi062, and explained 17.8%, 6.1%, and 7.0% of the phenotypic variance, respectively. The gene action was additive for the QTL on chromosome 3, while partially dominant for the QTL on chromosome 6 and 10. No significant epistatic interactions were found between QTLs by the method of multiple interval mapping, and three QTLs together explained 30.2% of the phenotypic variance.
