GPON,A New Technology of Passive Optical Network

The competition between APON and EPON drove GPON,a new passive optical network technolo-gy,to come into being.ITU-T just fin-ished some recommendations on GPON.GPON became a highlight of optical access network.This paper first summarized emergence and develop-ment of GPON,and then described sys-tem structure,layered model,basic technical requirements,transmission and multiplex method,framing struc-ture and survivability of GPON system.Finally the paper pointed out GPON’s advantages and analyzed GPON’s ap-plication prospect.
