OPHIOLITIC MELANGE BELTS IN THE NORTHERNMARGIN OF THE ALASHAN BLOCK
Wu Tairan He Guoqi(China University of Geosciences, Beijing)
There are two ophiolitic melange belts discovered recently in the northern margin of the Alashan block, i. e. The Engeerwusu and the Chaganchulu belts. Each of them pocesses its own characteristics both in structure and in pertrological geochemistry etc. The Engeerwusu belt manifests the oceanic properties with an enormous scale. It is a suture between the North China Platform and the Mid - Asian Continent. While the Chaganchulu Belt shows the properties of back-arc basin. It is a suture of the North China Platform with an island arc in its northern margin. The discovery of the two ophiolitic melange belts are very important for the study of the tectonic evolution and the division of tectonic units in the Alashan region.
