Extensional movement and extending action are well developed in the Tibetan Tethys domain.Based on the analysis of tectonic deformation, extensional unconformity, sedimentary facies and paleogeographical rebuilding of southern Tibet,it is recognized that the extensional movement consists of active extension of Hercynian,Indo Chinese and Early Yanshan epochs, and passive extension of the Himalayan epoch. Some of the characters of extensional movement and extending action are discussed in this paper.
