HIGH RESOLUTION SEQUENCE STRATIGRAPHY ANALYSIS: CONSTRUCTION OF CHRONOSTRATIGRAPHIC SEQUENCE FRAMEWORK ON FACIES AND RESERVOIR SCALE

The major purpose of high resolution sequence stratigraphy analysis is to recognize and correlate high resolution sequences and to construct a chronostratigraphic framework for analysis and prediction of facies and reservoirs. Studies on depositional sequences in shallow marine and inland basins have illustrated that the high resolution sequences, including the fourth and fifth order sequences and lowstand, transgressive, highstand and falling systems tracts, can be usually identified and correlated in the basins in terms of high frequency marine/lake level or base level change. The key in establishing of high resolution sequence framework is the identification and correlation of the fourth order sequences. They are the basic stratigraphic units for analysis of reservoir distribution and coal accumulation in sedimentary basins.
