Technology for carbonyl sulfide removal

The properties and mechanism and characteristics of various methods for removing carbonyl sulfide including amines process,hydrogenation,hydrolysis,oxidation,etc,were reviewed.Amines process is widely used to absorb H_2S and carbonyl sulfide(COS) simultaneously with the goal to enhance the absorbability of COS.Hydrogenation process is commonly used in oil refining which is efficient in converting COS to H_2S with the disadvantage of expensive Co-Mo-Al_2O_3 catalyst and high operational temperature.Attention has been focused on hydrolysis of COS for reasons of low reaction temperature,less side reaction and no hydrogen consumption.It is pointed out that alkanolamine process with the optimized and serialized solvent system and hydrolysis process accompanied by the development of novel catalyst with high activity and long age show good prospects.
