Heterotrophic mass culture of Chlorella USTB-01 in fermentor

The optimal control for the heterotrophic mass culture of Chlorella USTB-01,is studied in 50 L,500 L and 5 000 L fermentors,respectively.The results show that the growth of Chlorella USTB01 is greatly improved by continuous feeding the mixture of glucose as a carbon source and nitrate as a nitrogen source(the mass ratio of carbon to nitrogen is 20) at three different rates according to different microalgal growth phases.The maximum dry weight concentration(DWC) of microalgal cells within 72 hours could reach as much as more than 40 g/L in 50 L,500 L and 5 000 L fermentors,respectively.Keeping low concentrations of glucose and nitrate in the cultured solution plays a very important role in supporting the rapid growth of microalga.The advance in this way is achieved in both the culture scale and the great biomass of Chlorella USTB-01 obtained.Such a high microalgal biomass obtained in such a short period as within 72 hours has not been previously reported in the world.
