Study on antioxidant activity of poplar bud extracts extracted by four different ways

ZHENG Guang-yao1,WANG Liang-gui2,WANG Cheng-zhang1,DONG Yan-he1,YE Jian-zhong1,ZHOU Hao1(1.Key and Open Laboratory on Forest Chemical Engineering,SFA;Institute of Chemistry and Industry of Forest Products,CAF,Nanjing 210042,China;2.College of Forest Resources and Environment,Nanjing Forestry University,Nanjing 210037,China)
Poplar bud is degreased by petroleum ether or not degreased, and washed with H2O to remove salicylic acid or without acid-removal,then poplar bud resin is extracted by absolute alcohol to get 4 kinds of extracts:degreased and acid-removing extract, degreased and not acid-removing extract,acid-removing and not degreased extract, not degreased nor acid-removing extract. The contents of flavonoids in the four extracts are 34.0%,32.3%,28.2% and 27.7%,respectively,which are all higher than that of propolis(23.5%).The free radical scavenging activties of four extracts are 81.8%,84.2%,66.3% and 69.7%,respectively,and of propolis,79.0%.Poplar bud extracts have a better free radical scavenging activity and may be developed and utilizated as antioxidants.
