Several Factors Affecting the Detection of Voids behind Tunnel Support by Ground Penetrating Radar

The effects of survey line layout,survey time,survey frequency,antenna operation platform,operation sequence on the detection of voids behind tunnel support by GPR were analyzed.Results indicated that unsuitable layout of survey lines can result in the blind zones of GPR scan.The selection of survey time and antenna platform influences the acquisition of data and interpretation of processed GPR profiles.Improper survey frequency has unfavourable impact on the operation.Proper arrangement of operation sequence is prerequisite for the implementation of quality control in operation process by GRP.Taking four tunnels' inspection by GPR as an example,the paper demonstrates that these factors play a decisive role in the detection of voids behind tunnel support.
