Reflection on the public health education in China

Public health education has been implemented in China for more than 50 years. However, outdated training models, impractical curriculum design, uniform teaching approach, and lack of practice-based teaching of the education can no longer meet the demand of the modern public health system for high-quality public health professionals. The United States has an internationally recognized public health education system. Therefore, necessary studies and reforms on the public health education in China should include the concept of education, training programs, curriculum design, teaching content, teaching approach, teaching management, supervision and evaluation, and quality control. By aiming to incubate high-quality innovative talents for public health, the education needs to focus on improving the level of knowledge, abilities in learning, implementation, innovation, communication, and emergency response, as well as the sense of social responsibility of the students, and on exploring new models for incubating public health talents in China, who will more effectively advance the economic and social developments and health services of the country.
