Song ShiPhoenix Applied Research Center Motorola, Inc.  
Organic electroluminescence devices with luminous efficiency greater than 15 lm/W and lifetime longer than 10000 hours have been demonstrated. In this article, the basic device physics, materials used in organic light emitting diodes, device degradation mechanisms, and the opportunities of using this technology for commercial display applications will be discussed.
