Laser Initiation Fuze and Its Crucial Technologies

Combined with the two concepts of laser-driven flyer plate for pyrotechnics initiation and high peak power delivery by optic fiber,novel concept of the laser initiation fuze is presented.Compared with traditional electric initiation fuze,it is different in unique energy form,initiation mechanism,and system configuration etc.The novel laser initiation fuze definition hints the evolution roadmap of fuze technology from mechatronic era to optoelectronic one,and the roadmap is an important innovation aspect for future high performance fuze.Application potentials of the laser initiation fuze in nuclear weapon and advance conventional weapons are described.Three laser initiation formats are summarized according to references.Crucial elements of the laser initiation fuze are minimized laser,power delivery fiber and laser detonator.Its scientific research,system design and elementary technologies are also briefly discussed.
