Correlation study on sleep quality and self-rated health condition among university students in Guiyang city

Objective To investigate sleep quality and self-rated health of university students in Guiyang city,and to provide evidence for improving their psychosomatic health.Methods Stratified sampling,Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index(PSQI) and Self-rated Health Measurement Scale Version1.0(SRHMS V1.0) in 2 249 university students were used.Correlation analysis of PSQI and SRHMS was analyzed with Pearson correlation.Results The PSQI average score was 6.27±2.34,27.4% of university students showed poor quality of sleep.The average of SRHMS score was 73.37±9.50.The difference of sleep quality and self-rated health conditions between genders was not statistically significant.But significant differences were found in score of physical health subscale and psychosocial health subscale(P0.05).The sophomore students had the best self-rated health status,but the junior students had the worst sleep quality and self-rated health status.There was a negative correlation between PSQI and SRHMS(P0.01): the higher PSQI,the worse self-rated health condition was.Conclusion Sleep quality has important effects on health status.In order to promote their health,comprehensive measures should be taken to improve the sleep quality.
