Category analysis of hospitalized children and youth with spinal disorders

Objective To study the category and its related factors among children and youth hospitalized with spinal problems,and to provide evidence for prevention and protection.Methods By using of reviewing case files,a total of 445 children and youth who were ever hospitalized with spinal disorders in a hospital during 2009-2011were sampled and retrospectively analyzed.Data were collected and analyzed with SPSS 16.0.Results It was found that the most common 3 diseases were lumbar intervertebral disc,spinal tuberculosis and scoliosis,accounting for 43.82%.The highest prevalence of scoliosis and congenital torticollis was in 7-14 years old group and 3-6 years old group,respectively;the prevalence of lumbar intervertebral disc for male was higher in male group than that in female group while the prevalence of scoliosis and spinal tuberculosis was higher in female group than that in male group.Conclusion Most of the serious spinal problems in children are congenital,which implies that it is important to take the intervention measures such as earlier detection and treatment.For youth with spinal disorders,influencing factors are related to both congenital and environmental triggers,which mean more for prevention and intervention.
