APPLICATION OF FACIES CONTROL ERROR METHOD TO LITHOFACIES MAPPING IN SPARSELY-DRILLED AREA: A CASE STUDY OF NORTHERN TARIM BASIN

The well logging-controlled wave impedances inversion is applied to the calculation of apparent thickness of different kind of rocks,especially reservoir sandstone and black shales of source rocks.Location,distribution and configuration of sandstones and mudstones are calculated with data of wave impedances inversion under the control of the sparsely drilled wells.In the case of northeastern Tarim basin,thickness resolution is ca.20 meters for sandstones or mudstones using the wave impedances inversion.This resolution is better than that derived from conventional method(ca.30 meters).The lithologic cycles of grain size calculated with our method are proved by drilling sections,suggesting that the method is valid in sedimentary facies analysis.Differences in between the calculated results of mudstone thickness and the true values revealed by drilling wells are within +12~-15%.The relative error and percentage of mudstone obey the rule of single peak distribution.The facies control the thickness losing or gaining of mudstone.At last the apparent thickness is adjusted to real thickness by using results of relative error calculation.The method provides useful data for predicting the source rock during early exploration stage.
