An Investigation on Status Quo and its Influencing Factors of Contemporary Postgraduates' Life Affection in China

Life affection refers to an inner experience that occurs when people evaluate the life of themselves or others,which is an important part of affection quality structure. We has been confirmed psychological structure and development characteristic of life affection by researches of teenagers(Lu Jiamei et al., 2009) and undergraduates(Lu Jiamei et al., 2017), but the research has not covered life affection of postgraduates. The study focused on postgraduates' life affection under the theoretical framework of affective diathesis and tried to achieve the following objectives:(1) To understand status quo of contemporary postgraduates' life affection,(2) To analyze influence factors on life affection of postgraduate.The investigative tool we used is the Questionnaire on University Students' Life Affection and the Questionnaire on Influence Factors of University Students' Life. The Questionnaire on University Students' Life Affection has good reliability and validity, which including six dimensions, that is self-reliance affection, self-improvement affection, self-esteem affection, happiness affection, optimism affection, and cherishing life affection. The Questionnaire on Influence Factors of University Students' Life includes 35 items for confirming the factors affecting the postgraduate's life affection development, which from society, family, university and self(Lu Jiamei et al., 2017).We administered both of the Questionnaires to 10056 postgraduates from 51 universities with different types of 14 representative cities of China. All postgraduates were gathered in classrooms and finished the Questionnaire. The results indicated that:(1) as a whole, postgraduate in China had positive high level life affection. The self-esteem affection got an highest and the self-improvement affection got the lowest score in all six dimensions;(2) Females scored higher in cherishing life affection and self-esteem affection than males; postgraduates who received awards showed higher level of self-reliance affection, self-improvement affection and self-esteem affection than those no awards, and those come from incomplete family indicated lower level of happiness affection than those come from complete family.(3) postgraduates' life affection were affected by attitudes and values, such as identification of the social core values public opinion attentiveness and self-demand, all had positive effects on postgraduate's Life Affection.As the first large scale investigation of postgraduates' life affection, the above results can provide some references on improving postgraduates' life affection and affective quality.
