Toxic trails of molybdenum in Boergoat and sheep

Eight crossed Boergoats were allocated to group1,2,3 and 5 (control) and two sheep as group 4. Groups 1,2,3 and 4 received additional molybdenum at dosage of 150 mg, 100 mg, 60 mg and 100 mg molybdenum (Na 2MoO 4·2H 2O) by oral route for 5 days, then received half of molybdenum respectively for 40 days, and the control group was given only water. The results were as fellow: Boergoats and sheep in the tested groups (1,2,3,4) obviously presented cough, groan, staggering gait, inappetance, depression, diarrhea and anaemia. The concentration of red blood cell (RBC), hemoglobin (Hb) and the packed cell volume (PCV) in tested groups were significantly lower than the control's. RBC, MCH and MCV of group 1 were extremely significant lower than group3's (P0.01), Hb of group 4 was significantly lower than group2's (P0.05), and PCV, MCH and MCV were extremely significant lower than group 2's (P0.01); From necropsy, livers and kidneys presented swelled, and intestine wall araised hyperemia and hemorrhage.
