Effects of Water Stress on the Photosynthesis and Output in Vicia faba L. Leaves

By artificial water stress, the photosynthesis and output in Xiang Zhu Dou, one breed of Vicia faba L. in Chongqing,was studied. As the degree of soil drought increased, the net photosynthetic rate and photo saturation point decreased, while photo compensation point and CO 2 compensation point increased, photo respiration increased. The growth of plant slowed down and the accumulation of assimilate production decreased. Ultimately, the height of stem, length of root, the weight of stem and root, the area of leaf, the number and weight of root nodule, the number of flower and fruitage decreased greatly, while the root top ratio increased. These were the major reasons for the decrease of accumulation of biomass in V. faba L.
