Investigation on the distribution of the indigenous soybean nodulating rhizobial resources in Sichuan purple soils

The population of the indigenous soybean nodulating rhizobia in the Sichuan purple soils was investigated in this study. The results showed that the number of the indigenous populations were 33-1500 per gram dry soil in the soybean planted purple soils. However, the population was 2. 5, 3. 8 per gram dry soil in the non-soybean planted purple soils. There were no indigenous soybean nodulating rhizobia existing in the paddy rice purple soils. The symbiotic effect of the indigenous strains on soybean cultivars was different. They were more effective on the cultivars Zigong 5 and Chuannong 1 than on the Quanshui 3. The genetic engineered strain HN32 was more effective than the indigenous strains.
