Relationship among agronomic characters of the different growth period in tumorous stem mustard (var.tumida Tsen et Lee)

Studies on relationship among agronomic characters of the different growth period were carried out with correlations, regression and path analysis by using 21 tumorous stem mustard varieties.The results showed that there existed positive simple correlation among agronomic characters.Partial correlation analysis showed that there were significantly and positively partial correlation between the whole plant fresh weight of the beginning period,leaf width,fresh weight and vertical length of tumorous stem,between tumorous stem fresh weight and the whole plant fresh weight in the middle period, and between yield per plant stem fresh weight of and tumorous in the beginning period, leaf length,,vertical length, horizontal length and the ratio between tumorous stem fresh weight and leaf fresh weight of bud appearance period. Significantly and negatively partial correlation between tumorous stem fresh weight of beginning period and vertical length and horizontal length, between leaf width of beginning period and the whole plant fresh weight of the middle period, between vertical length and horizontal length, and between yield per plant and the whole plant fresh weight of the beginning period was observed.Multiple step regression and path analyses showed that partial regression coefficients and path coefficients of tumorous stem fresh weight of the beginning and middle periods, leaf length, vertical length and horizontal length of bud appearance period to yield per plant were significant. The trait,which contributed the most to yield per plant,was horizontal length,then vertical length,then leaf length of bud appearance period,then tumorous stem fresh weight in the middle period,then tumorous stem fresh weight in the beginning period,and there existed negatively partial correlation among the 5 agronomic characters.It suggested that the main approach of high yield breeding was to increase the horizontal length.
