Analysis of Agronomic Characters of North American Cultivated Barley

The agronomic characters and their associations of 99 North American barley cultivars were investigated.The results indicated that:the most cultivars were mid-height type,with spike number of per plant more than ten.The stooling was strong.The spike length was in or above mid-length.The spikelets were more.Grain number per spike and 1000-grain weight was low.There were no large grain resources in the cultiuars.The ear bearing tiller percentage was high or medium high.Eighteen elite cultivars with excellent agronomic performance were screen out.The correlation analysis results showed that the relationships between plant height and grain number per spike,1000-grain weight,spike length,and 1000-grain weight and spikelets number,spike length were significant.Therefore,the production of barley could be improved by increasing the 1000-grain weight.
