A Study on the Method of E·G·S·C and Its Application

Compared with usual multiple crosses,the E·G·S·C method (stepped cross between excellent genotypes(F 3)and current elite varieties)can reduce breeding scale,accumulate more parents' excellent characters, focus on selection of objectives characters and combine the simple-crossing with composite crossing effectively.This method can make it easier to select a genotype with rich hereditary background and select good varieties for all kinds of needs.Of the E·G·S·C methods,mode1 and 2 will be more effective but more complex,which can be used by younger breeding workers equipped with better conditions.With mode 3,four varieties were developed during 1974-1989.These varieties have the characteristics of high protein and high lysine,Large and white grain,high yield and good quahity,big ear ,resistance to lodging and extensive adaptability.
