Silurus meridionalis and Cyprinus carpio were fed different amounts of EM(effective microor- ganisms)as additive of the fodder for 40 days and the blood parameters related to their growth and health were measured.Red blood cell number(RBC),white blood cell number(WBC),haemoglobin content (Hb),erythrocyte osmotic fragility(EFT),erythrocyte sedimentation rate(ESR)and hemotocrit(Ht)in the treatment groups were superior to those of the control group and increased with increasing amount of the EM additive. Thus, the results demonstrated that EM can improve blood parameters of the two fish species, enhance their metabolism and expedite their growth rate.
