Effects of Exogenous Salicylic Acid on the Chlorophyll Fluorescence and Antioxidative System of Cucumber Seedlings under Enhanced UV-B Radiation

In this paper,the effects of exogenous salicylic acid(SA) on the chlorophyll fluorescence and antioxidant system in cucumber leaves under enhanced UV-B radiation stress were studied.The results showed that exogenous SA pretreatment decreased original fluorescence(Fo) and non-photochemical quenching(NPQ) during enhanced UV-B radiation stress,but increased maximum photochemical efficiency(Fv/Fm),actual photochemical efficiency(ΦPSⅡ),electron transport rate(ETR) and photochemical quenching(qP) as well as chlorophyll contents.And exogenous SA improved the activities of peroxidase and catalase under UV-B stress in cucumber leaves.So the photosynthetic system II(PSⅡ) was protected efficiently and the recovery was faster.These results suggested that exogenous SA may play an protective role against the damage to photosynthetic system caused by enhanced UV-B radiation.
