SPECTRAL CHARACTERISTICS OF Eu~(2+) ION IN SYSTEM MF_2-xMgF_2 (M = Ca, Sr, Ba)

The spectral characteristics of Eu~(2+) ion in system of MF_2-xMgF_2(M=Ca, Sr, Ba) were investigated in this paper. It is observed thatemission peak position of Eu~(2+) ion MF_2-xMgF_2 shifts to shorter wave-length with increasing radius of M~(2+) ion at x=1.0 or 2.0. When x ranges from 1.5 to 2.5, a sharp line emission of Eu~(2+) ionwith peak at 360 nm in BaF_2-xMgF_2 was observed. This is characteri-stic of f-f transition emission for Eu~(2+) ion. At 78K, the emission intensity of sharp line strongly increases atthe same time that of broad band decreases. Spectral structure and emission intensity change with increasing x(see Fig.2). The maximum intensity of the sharp line lies at x=2.0. No sharp line emission was observed at x=3.0 under the conditionof our experiment. When the lower limit of 4f-5d absorption level is higher than 27,000cm~(-1), the sharp line emission of Eu~(2+) ion in the system may be observed(see Table 4).
