Photocatalytic Characterization of Yttrium Doping TiO_2/Bentonite Nanocomposite

Yttrium doping TiO_2/bentonite nanocomposite prepared by sol-gel with bentonite, Ti(OC_4H_9)_4 and YCl_3 was characterizaed by XRD, DTA-TG and IR, respectively. Under the sun the photocatalytic activity was evaluated by degradation of dye acid red B. The results showed that yttrium doping TiO_2 permeated the interlayer of bentonite.At 500℃ anatase TiO_2 formed on the bentonite surface. The activity of photocatalytic degradation increased rapidly due to the fact that a certain amount of yttrium doping decreased the diameters of TiO_2 particles. The intensity of 510 nm adsorption peak corresponding to the dye acid red B decreased rapidly during the photocatalytic process and disappeared completely within 2 hours.Dispelling rate of acid red B amounted to 97.38%.
