Water-Gas-Shift Reaction(WGSR)on Cerium Oxide by Fourifr-Transform Infrared Spectroscopy

The adsorptivity of water.carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide on the surface ofceriurn oxide has been studied by in situ Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR)attemperatures ranging from r.t.to 673K,Monodentate carbonates were formed by adsorption ofcarbon dioxide at lower temperature,then unidentate formate species were observed at higher tem-perature. The formate species were formed by the reaction of CO with the surface hydroxyls ofCeO_2 at moderate temperature,The formate species can be decomposed at higher temperature,andthen formed unidentate formate species. The results show that the decomposition of unidentateformate species controls the WGSR on the surface of CeO_2.
