Study on the TEMPO-mediated Oxidation of Rayon

Rayon was oxidized by 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpipelidine-1-oxyl radical(TEMPO)-NaClO- NaBr system, and the oxidation process was studied. The result of CP/MAS 13C-NMR showed that C6 primary alcohol groups in rayon could be completely and selectively oxidized to carboxyl groups, and cellouronic acid was obtained. CP/MAS 13C-NMR, alkali consumption and acid-alkali neutralization were used to measure the carboxyl content formed in the system. The DPv changed in rayon was also investigated.
