THE STUDY ON DETECTING ANTIBODIES OF SCHISTOSOMA BY DOT IMMUNOGOLD FILTRATION ASSAY

ObJective To establish one of simple,fast, sensitive and specific assays for detecting schistosome antibodies. Methods The serum antibodies of patients with schistosomiasis have been detected by dot immunogold filtration assay (DIGFA), and also by ELISA as the parallel coptrol. Results The sensitivities of DIGFA and ELISA are 97.1 % and 95. 7% respectively, and the specificities are 99. 1 % and 100% respectively. There are no significant differences between the two assays (P0.05). Sixty-two specimens of patients infected with other parasitic diseases are detected by the two assays. All specimens show negetive, except one specimen of a patient infected with Paragonimus westermani detected by ELISA. Conclusion The results suggest that DIGFA is sensitive and specific as the assay of ELISA, and also has other advantages such as simple, fast and without specific equipment. The assay is deserved to apply abroadly in detecting the antibodies of schistosome.
