System Equilibrium in Geo-Security:Challenges and Responses to China’s Energy Security in the New Era

Yu Hongyuan;
Energy is one of the fundamental elements of the prosperity and security of all countries,and it is also an important material basis for the development of modern economy and society.Ensuring energy security is a pressing task facing China in the middle and late stages of industrialization.In the context of the global energy pattern adjustment,China is confronted with global energy governance risks represented by excessive foreign dependence and geopolitical risks,as well as multiple challenges including increased import channel risks and geo-security with reduced financial capacity.China should attach importance to energy geopolitical security by strengthening its energy cooperation with key countries(regions) such as the United States,Russia and the Middle East;and eliminate geopolitical conflict risks by encouraging social organizations,energy companies and other entities to participate in cooperation with oil-producing countries.At the same time,China should focus on technological innovation in clean energy to achieve diversified energy supply.In terms of participating in global energy governance,China should enhance its institutional influence in global energy governance in order to better serve the realistic needs of China's peace and development.
