Current status of diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer complicated with second primary thyroid cancer

Breast cancer patients complicated with second primary thyroid cancer can be divided into synchronous and metachronous types. Breast cancer is a high risk factor of the incidence and progression of thyroid carcinoma,which increases the prevalence of thyroid cancer. Patients with second primary thyroid cancer present with specific clinicopathological characteristics. At present,the pathogenesis of breast cancer complicated with second primary thyroid cancer remains elusive. The hormone,hormonal receptor,genetic susceptibility and clinical treatment have been extensively investigated. Current therapies are adopted mainly according to relevant guidelines. Postoperative follow-up should be strengthened due to the increased incidence of breast cancer complicated with second primary thyroid carcinoma.
