Methylcobalamin in treatment of lower lumbar vertebral diseases: Phase Ⅲ clinical trials

AIM: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of methylcobalamin in treating lower lumber vertebral diseases. METHODS: Ninety patients (M 56, F 34, age 48 a+- s 45 a and 53 a+- 32 a) of lower lumbal vertebral diseases were consisted of 72 Patients of lumbar intervertebral disk herniation and 18 of lumbar intervertebral Canal stenosis. all patients received methylcobalamin 500 ug, im, qod in the first 2 wk and then methylcobalamin 500 ug, po, tid in the following 2 wk. RESULTS: The clinical symptoms and signs in most patients were obviously improved, especially the subjectve symptoms. An improvement ratio of total was 45% above the effective level and 84% above the improved level. No differences of improvement ratio were found in statistics among the two diseases, different affected durations, the presence and absence of analgesic. CONCLUSION: Methylcobalamin is considered to be useful and safe to the improvement of pain, numbness, and other nerve disturbance symptorns associated with lumbar vertebral diseases.
