Luminescence glassfiber in Eu~(3+) doped ZMCB

The photoluminescence(PL) glassfiber in Eu~(3+)-doped ZnO-MgO-CdO-B_2O_3 was synthesized under a high-temperature solid state then could be drawn artificially by glass stream hauling. Its diameter was in the range of 0.01~0.30mm and length was more than 10m. The strong emission band of Eu~(3+) with a maximum at 613nm belonged to electric dipole transition (~5 D_0-~7F_2) and the emission at 591nm with 40% (relative) intensity at 613nm belonged to magnetic dipole transition ~5 D_0-~7F_1. It was known that Eu~(3+) mainly held non-centro-symmetry lattice and also occupied centro-symmetry lattice in local ambient. Different concentrations of Eu~(3+ decay curves were fitted. The results indicate that the luminescence changes from the firstorder decay to the second order decay while the concentration of rare-earth ions is increased. Lateral (surface,) (fracture) and fracture conchoidal cracks were observed by SEM. It is of smooth surface, high density, low (devitrification) and thick cracks with channel-looking. The mechanics behaviors of the glassfiber were studied.
