Studies on the Chromosome G-banding Patterns in Rice-field Eels (Monopterua albus Zuiew)

This paper presents the G-banding chromosomes of cultured leucocytes in M.albus by trypsin-Giemsa banding technique,a technique suitable for staining fish G-banding chromosomes.We analysed the chromosome G-banding patterns.The terminal centric regions of 12 pairs of chromosomes reveal dark bands,chromosome arms ranging from 3 to 8 dark bands.Three pairs of marker chromosomes were analysed.It was found that No.12 is a pair of heteromorphic chromosomes,tentatively designated as XY.The problem of the heteromorphic chromosomes in Pisces was thus discussed.Our result showed that the G-banding pattern is related to the mitotic phaseslate-prophase,early-metaphase and full-metaphase,and the relationships between them were analysed.We consider that the early-metaphase or late-prophase is superior to full-metaphase in studying G-banding patterns.
