A Study of Mitochondrial DNA Polymorphism in Natural Population of Drosophila albomicans──Ⅱ.The Origin and Differentiation of Drosophila albomicans

Wang Wen; Ling Fayao; Shi Liming(Laboratory of Cellular and Molecular Evolution, Kunming Institute of Zoology. Chinese Academy of Sciences 650223)
mtDNA polymorphism in natural populations of D. albomicans was studied with 8 restriction endonucleases. The result revealed that the extant populations of D. albomicans can be distinguished into three geographic populations, namely, the eastern, the middle and the western. Referring other references, we inferred that D, albomi cans may be originated around Malaysia and Kanlimantan island. At early stage, the ancestral populaton differentiated into two lineages, eastern and western population, both of which expanded towords north. Then, the western lineage diverged into two sublineages again when it reached the north of the Middle-south Penisula. Thereby, the trident pattern of geographic distribution in D. albomicans was constructed.
