Mapping of Major Genes and Minor Genes for Heading Date in Several Rice Varieties(Oryza sativa L.)

In this study,based on two RFLP maps that had been constructed,major genes and minor genes controlling heading date have been identified and mapped.In Tesanai 2/C.B.population,two major genes on chromosome 3,8 and two minor genes on chromosome 1,12 were mapped,two major genes which collectively explained 49.2% of observed phenotypic variation had additive effects of 7 and 6 days respectively,while two minor genes which explained 8.3% and 9.6% respectively had additive effects from 3 to 4 days.In other population(Waiyin 2/ C.B.),two major genes linked on chromosome 6 and one minor gene on chromosome 8 have been mapped. Two major genes which explained 35.5% and 27.4% of the observed phenotypic variation respectively from Waiyin 2 had gene effects of later heading.They were indicated to be photosensitive genes.While minor gene which explained 8.9% of the observed phenotypic variation had a small gene effect.
