Purification of water from the Changjiang River by polyaluminum silicate sulfate

Polyaluminum silicate sulfate(PASS) is prepared from industrial water glass solution and industrial aluminum sulfate and then used for the purification of water from the Changjiang River.After the treatment,the turbidity of the water falls to 0.5 NTU,and the pH value is 6.65,which suggests that the water is drinkable.The image and structure of PASS are observed with an electron microscope,and the images of the floccules are studied by inverted biological microscope.The particles in the floccules are measured and compared with those of polyaluminum chloride(PAC).The results show that the branches of PASS are longer and the extent of polymerization becomes stronger than those of PAC,leading to more powerful bridging function of PASS.Furthermore,the image and the diameter of particles witness no significant change when amylum is added into PASS.
